Posted by on Apr 14, 2011 | 0 comments

What should I have for lunch? If you work nine-to-five, then you’ve probably struggled with this question regularly – even daily! Of course there are many options. You can go to a restaurant near where you work ($$$). You can go to a fast-food place near where you work (cheaper). You can eat at your company cafeteria, if there is one. All of these options are expensive, and will almost certainly result in long-term weight gain. Or you can bring something from home. Frozen prepared meals are a convenient option, but over time can become a little expensive, and are frequently...

Raw Curried Carrot Parsnip Soup

I’ve been experimenting with making better use of my Vitamix. So, in addition to the various smoothies we make every day, I decided to create some delicious soup recipes that would be equally quick and easy to make. Cocoa has a high concentration of anti-aging polyphenol antioxidants, so it’s possible that incorporating dark chocolate into your diet might alleviate the signs of aging. – – – – I’ve known for a long time that dark...

Alpha Lipoic Acid – Another Supplement Worth Taking?

Posted by on Mar 29, 2011 | 0 comments

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a big advocate of taking nutritional supplements – I tend to believe that a healthy diet should provide you with all the nutrients you need. But, every so often I come across something that seems to have significant health benefits, and is not readily available from food sources. Alpha Lipoic Acid may be one of those things. Here’s the result of my initial investigation into Alpha Lipoic Acid (primary information sources: Linus Pauling Institute, and University of Maryland Medical Center). Overview: Alpha-lipoic acid is an antioxidant...
