Raw Chocolate Pudding – What a Fantastic Way to End the Day!

Posted by on Jul 7, 2011 | 5 comments

During the three-day raw detox that I just finished, desserts were off-limits. But I had lots of time to spend browsing through raw food ‘cookbooks’, and raw food websites, and I saw a lot of desserts that looked really yummy! So, tonight I decided that I’d been virtuous enough all day long (watermelon smoothies all day long, with veggies and hummus for supper) that I had really earned a treat for dessert. One recipe that caught my attention was raw chocolate pudding. I couldn’t find the recipe this evening, but I remembered roughly what the ingredients were –...

Juicing? What To Do With All That Leftover Pulp

Posted by on May 8, 2011 | 3 comments

If you’ve taken up juicing, and especially if you’ve got a masticating juicer (Champion, Omega, Green Star…), then in addition to that wonderful juice, you’ve probably got a bunch of delicious, high-fiber pulp left over. You may be composting it, which is good – certainly better than just throwing it in the garbage. But if you’re thinking there must be something you could use it for – you’re right! Brownies (makes 16 brownies): What you need: – a food processor – a hand-held...

All of these options are expensive, and will almost certainly result in long-term weight gain. Or you can bring something from home. Frozen prepared meals are a convenient option, but over time can become a little expensive, and are frequently...

Raw Curried Carrot Parsnip Soup

Posted by on Apr 2, 2011 | 1 comment

I’ve been experimenting with making better use of my Vitamix. So, in addition to the various smoothies we make every day, I decided to create some delicious soup recipes that would be equally quick and easy to make. I’ve converted a non-raw soup recipe that I used to love, from a Moosewood Restaurant cookbook, into a raw recipe that could be made start-to-finish in my Vitamix – a flavorful curried carrot parsnip soup with the zing of ginger that would be perfect as an appetizer, before pretty much any meal (apparently eating soup before a meal tends to decrease the total amount eaten...
