Definition of insanity – to keep doing the same things, but expect different results
We all know it, and yet we sometimes don’t make the changes that we know will give us the results we’re looking for. So, each month I’m going to provide a set of small lifestyle modifications for you to, if you choose, apply to your life. Please write in and let us all know how it’s going for you!
My recommendation, choose one challenge each week (so that you do one thing on week 1, then add a second one on week 2, and so on).
Sleep – when’s the last time you woke up before your alarm went off, feeling well rested and full of energy? If you can’t remember that EVER happening, then try going to sleep 30 minutes earlier every night. See if it makes a difference.
Hydration – most people are at least somewhat dehydrated, especially in winter. It lowers your metabolic rate, and drains you of energy. Drink 2 cups (500ml) of water each morning before breakfast, and again before dinner. This is in addition to whatever you normally drink during the day.
Fitness – Who has the time? But you know you should do it. Set your alarm ten minutes earlier, and every morning, right after you roll out of bed, do a 5 minute mini-Tabata workout (2 sets of each exercise, instead of the full 8), followed by a 5 minute mini-Yoga workout.
Nutrition – Very few people get the recommended amount of fiber in their daily diets. Increase the fiber in YOUR diet by replacing your normal dinner by a bean-based meal (black beans are fantastic, but chick peas, kidney beans, lentils are also good), just once or twice a week.
Skin care Who wouldn’t like to have that same radiant, dewy complexion we had when we were young? You may not be able to turn back the clock, but you CAN make sure your skin looks its best by taking proper care of it. Since the biggest external cause of aging is cumulative sun damage : this month, make sure you apply a daytime-moisturizer containing sufficient UV protection (SPF of 20 or greater) every morning.
