As many of my regular readers already know, I’m a big fan of homemade face-products, like masks and scrubs. So when Olivia Jones, another health blogger, offered to write an article for me about homemade facial cleansing products, I was happy to accept. Thank you, Olivia!

Healthy, Natural Facial Cleansing
Acquiring and maintaining healthy skin is a priority for women over 30, or so we are told, but really the earlier your regime begins, the healthier your skin will look as you age. Facial wrinkles, puffy eyes and exposed pores vanish with proper skin care. Healthy skin is clean, unblemished and soft and makes you feel confident throughout the day, which is definitely worth the extra steps to keep it healthy. Moisturized skin looks healthier and makes every woman look healthy and youthful. Synthetic make-up, over processed, chemical products and inadequate facial cleansing can cause skin to lose moisture, appear dull and blotchy. Organic products such as fruit oils, distilled plant bases and natural absorbents provide nutrition for healthy skin as well as vitamin and mineral nutrients for the body. Looking beautiful and looking healthy are one in the same.
Cleansing with Cool Lime
Use natural ingredients for a healthy facial cleansing for a cost effective and fun alternative to chemically synthesized products. Remember you can also make some amazing natural exfoliators this way too.
- Cut and quarter a lime. Lime is aromatic and contains vitamin C.
- Squeeze approximately ¼ of the juice into a bowl. Set the rind aside.
- Pour ¼ cup of organic or turbanado cane sugar onto a plate.
- Dip the lemon or lime rind into the cane sugar.
Using a gentle, circular motion, rub the rind and sugar along the forehead, nose, cheeks, mouth and chin. Mix the fruit juice with water and splash the face with the juice. Dry the face with a soft cloth, gently.
Avoid getting fruit rind or juice into the eyes or cuts. If the lime juice stings the skin, simply splash cool water on your face. Feel the tingle of the fruit. Vitamin C is nourishing your skin; the sugar is exfoliating and removing dead skin cells. The lime oil removes skin toxins and acne and deposits a layer of antioxidant, anti-aging protection along the newly exposed skin cells.
Store all ingredients in a tightly sealed container for multiple uses.
Cool the Heat While You Cleanse the Skin
Purchase distilled witch hazel at the grocery store. It is a natural antiseptic distilled from yellow flowering shrubs. Witch hazel takes the sting out of sunburn, cools heat and sand rubbed skin, in addition to cleaning the skin and removing make-up, quickly and gently.
Moisturizing with Honey and Oats
- Mix 1 cup of organic, dark honey with 1 cup rolled oats.
- Apply the honey and oats, by hand, to the skin of the face and neck.
- Allow the mixture to set on the face for several minutes.
- Microwave a damp towel and apply to face and neck.
- Remove the mixture with the damp towel.
- Rinse the skin with lime juice water.
- Dry the skin, gently.
Honey provides the skin and neck with antioxidants, Vitamins B and E. Honey naturally soothes and moisturizes dry skin. It is also a common skin toning tool.
Rolled oats provide the honey with a catalyst for maintaining moisture, while drawing toxins from the skin.

Thank you for sharing the recipes of some homemade facial skin care products. I really appreciate reading a well prepared blog. I remember one time when I was in England they had stores where you could buy homemade skin care products which I found really cool. I searched in the US and never found a company like that, although you did need to use the product quickly. Thanks again for sharing
