Incorporate Stair-climbing into an Intense Cardio Workout

Posted by on May 5, 2011 | 0 comments

Hmm – spring!  Finally the weather is beginning to warm up – take advantage of that by moving some of your workouts outdoors.  Especially if you’re lucky enough to live near a wooded trail system, combining fresh air and exercise and trees is a great way to get in shape and feel great. Running through the woods, breathing all that fresh, clean air, is nice – but sometimes running can get a little boring. If you have access to some stairs near those trails, you can change up your running workout while upping the intensity – dramatically! What you need: – a...

Yoga Pose of the Day – Agnistambhasana

Posted by on May 4, 2011 | 0 comments

If you are anything like the vast majority of adults living in the Western hemisphere, your body has probably lost the majority of the amazing flexibility you were born with. From the moment you get up in the morning, your day may include: sitting at the dining room table for breakfast, sitting in your car as you drive to work, sitting at a desk for the next 9 hours, and so on, ending with sitting on the couch watching TV for a few hours before bed. All that sitting, standing, walking, and lying down can result in shockingly tight knees and hips – and you won’t even notice it,...

So, I’ve given careful thought to where we need the most work (knees, hips, lower back, shoulders, and neck is what I came up with), and what yoga poses are particularly good for those parts of the body, while still being...

Product Recommendation – MEC Cycling Shoe Covers

Posted by on Mar 10, 2011 | 1 comment

Today was yet another cold day for cycling in to work. I was recently given some Shoe Covers to wear over my hiking boots as a gift, and this morning I decided to give them a try. I give them an enthusiastic two thumbs up – my toes were toasty warm the whole way this morning, and again this evening! Toes and fingers are the hardest things to keep warm when cycling in temperatures of -20C or colder. I’ve been using re-heatable ‘pocket warmers’ in my mitts to keep my fingers warm, but hadn’t come up with anything for my toes until today. I almost wish winter would...
